Day 2 of My Paleo Diet

13 Jan

I’m proud to say that I haven’t cheated on the diet, even though it’s only been a day and a half.  My cravings for sugar and more carbohydrates isn’t too bad, but again it’s only been a day and a half.  I did feel light headed and weak during my workout today.  I did 15 rounds of “Chelsea” (5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 BW Squats, one set every minute on the minute for 30 minutes) before I had to stop and after resting continued with  6 x 3  snatches at a moderate weight.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

The Paleo diet doesn’t necessarily have to be low carbohydrates (although it is ideal to control insulin to help those seeking to shed some extra fat). It is more about eating mostly vegetables and some fruits as your main source of carbohydrates, although it is believed that sometimes sweet potatoes are consumed.

The concept of using the Paleo diet in modern times is to maximize nutrient intake without superfluous calories that contain anti-nutrients and contribute to excess weight.

Since the average person eating the Standard American Diet has been burning mostly glucose, a sudden withholding of excessive carbohydrates will leave the body struggling to “search” for another source of energy — fat stores and dietary fat. As such, you’ll feel crappy, maybe light-headed during exercise, but only as your body makes the metabolic shift to burning more fat for its energy. It takes about two to 4 weeks for this shift (sometimes more, sometimes less).

Hang in there. Let the body go through this process. You’ll feel better, and will gain all the benefits of increased nutrients, better recovery, and will have less inflammation.
